Music video 'shines positive light on care sector'

The creator of a song and music video featuring care home staff and residents has said he hopes it will "shine a positive light" on the sector.

The track, Who Cares?, has been released by the Independent Care Group, which represents social care providers in York and North Yorkshire.

It has been performed by Ivor-Novello award-nominated singer-songwriter Boo Hewerdine, with harmonies from the Sing Out! South Craven Choir.

Brian Johnson from the Independent Care Group said he hoped the lyrics he had penned represented "all angles" of caring

He said the words were written "from the point of view of the people being cared-for [and] from the point of view of the carers" as well as being "a little bit of a dig at the powers-that-be to get the situation in the care industry sorted out".

"The care sector gets a lot of negative press and negative reaction, but this hopefully shows that people working in the industry are really good, hard-working people and it gives them a little bit of recognition," he said.
