Care Development East is delighted to announce the appointment of Gemma Bloomfield as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking an exciting new chapter in the organisation’s ongoing commitment to the adult social care sector.

Care Development East welcomes new CEO Gemma Bloomfield and bids farewell to Christan Bone
Ipswich, Suffolk – 13 May 2025 – Care Development East supports the health and social care workforce across the East of England and is pleased to announce the appointment of Gemma Bloomfield as its new CEO with effect from 19.5.25 following the departure of Christian Bone who has led the organisation for the past 5 years.
Christian supported the care sector through training, development, recruitment initiatives and key events including the annual Dementia Market Place and Suffolk Care Awards.
Christian said:
“After 5 years and having had a wonderful time here at Care Development East, I will be moving on to pursue new opportunities.
I'm incredibly grateful for the experience I have had here and for the support of a great team. We have achieved a massive amount over the last few years and CDE is highly respected by its partners and the care providers we help and support, all of whom I will miss.
Thanks to all who supported me over the last few years, particularly during the pandemic. I look forward to working with you again at some point in the future.”
The organisation warmly welcomes incoming CEO Gemma Bloomfield. Gemma brings a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the sector and is committed to supporting a skilled, valued and resilient care workforce to deliver excellent care.
Reflecting on her new role, Gemma said:
“I have had the privilege of working within the health and social care sector for 28 years in a variety of settings including hospital, residential care, community support and supported housing. For the past five years I have been Director of Care for a local organisation leading two ‘Outstanding’ rated services with the Care Quality Commission and have experienced first-hand the excellent support provided by Care Development East. I am excited to be part of the organisation's next chapter, working with the team, board and partners to support all social care providers in achieving excellence in the sector.”
