Suffolk Care Awards 2026 Sponsor Spotlight: Primary Homecare

This week’s sponsor spotlight is Primary Homecare. They are a family-owned, CQC Outstanding-rated homecare provider supporting people across Suffolk to live safely, independently and with dignity in their own homes. Whilst maintaining the family values that have been at the heart of their organisation for more than 30 years. Sponsoring the Excellence in Activities & Engagement award, they tell us why they chose that award and what it means to them.

What does your organisation do that you would love more people to know about?

We'd love more people to know that homecare isn't just about ‘helping with personal care.’ We support people to remain independent and continue living the life they want at home. This can include companionship, wellbeing support, help with everyday tasks, technology support, reablement following hospital stays and flexible care that can change as someone's needs change.

What makes your organisation or your team special?

Our people make Primary Homecare special. We have a genuinely caring and supportive team who build meaningful relationships with the people they support. We also have a strong family ethos within the organisation, and many of our colleagues have developed their careers with us, progressing from care roles into coordination and management positions

What does social care mean to your organisation?

Social care is about people, independence, dignity and quality of life. For us, it means looking beyond someone's care needs and understanding the person themselves; their routines, preferences, goals and what matters to them. Our role is to support people, not take away their independence.

What do you think is special about the people who work in social care?

People who work in social care have an incredible ability to give their time, patience and kindness to others, often during some of the most difficult or challenging periods of their lives. It takes compassion, resilience, adaptability and a genuine desire to make a difference – and those qualities are seen every day in our care teams.

Is there a particular person, experience or moment that has shaped your connection with social care?

For Primary Homecare, our connection with social care has been shaped by more than 30 years of caring for people and families across Suffolk. The Fairburn family have built the organisation around strong family values, and that ethos continues today. Seeing the difference that good care can make to someone's independence, confidence and quality of life continues to shape everything we do.

If you could change one misconception about social care, what would it be?

That ‘social care is simply about looking after people who can no longer look after themselves’. Good social care is so much more than that. It's about enabling people to do what they can do, supporting independence, maintaining relationships and helping people continue to live meaningful lives in their own communities and homes.

Why did you decide to sponsor the Suffolk Care Awards this year?

We wanted to support an event that celebrates the people behind Suffolk's care sector. Care professionals work incredibly hard every day, and the Suffolk Care Awards provide an opportunity to shine a light on their dedication, achievements and the difference they make to people's lives.

Why did you choose to sponsor your chosen award?

We chose to sponsor the Excellence in Activities & Engagement Award because we know how important meaningful activity and social connection are to a person's wellbeing and quality of life.

For us, care is about much more than meeting someone's essential needs. It's about helping people stay connected to the things they enjoy, maintain their independence and continue to feel involved in their own lives and communities. We wanted to support an award that recognises the creativity, dedication and thought that care professionals put into making everyday life more meaningful for the people they support.

What does it mean to you to help recognise and celebrate people working across Suffolk's care sector?

It's a privilege. Care can sometimes be a profession that happens quietly behind the scenes, but the impact is enormous. Recognising the people who dedicate their working lives to supporting others is important because they deserve to know that their hard work, compassion and commitment are valued.

What would you like to see more of in Suffolk's social care sector?

We'd love to see greater recognition of social care as a skilled and rewarding profession, alongside more opportunities for training, development and career progression. We'd also like to see continued collaboration between care providers, health services, local authorities and communities so that people receive joined-up support.
