Suffolk Care Awards 2026 Sponsor Spotlight: Suffolk County Council

This week, we’re shining the spotlight on our Headline Sponsor, Suffolk County Council! As a key partner in Suffolk's adult social care sector, Suffolk County Council plays an important role in supporting residents, working collaboratively with providers and helping to shape the future of care across the county.

In one or two sentences, how would you describe your organisation?

Suffolk County Council, as a local authority, provides essential services and support to people and communities across the county. This includes working with our partners and care providers to help adults live safe, independent and fulfilling lives.

What does your organisation do that you would love more people to know about?

We would love more people to recognise the breadth of work taking place across adult social care. It is not simply about responding when someone reaches a crisis. It is also about prevention, supporting independence and helping people remain connected to their families and communities.

What makes your organisation or your team special?

Our staff are committed to putting Suffolk residents at the heart of everything they do. We work closely with care providers, health services, voluntary organisations, families and communities to find solutions that reflect each person’s circumstances, build on their strengths and support their aspirations.

What does social care mean to your organisation?

We invest more than £500 million a year in adult social care, helping people across Suffolk to live the lives they want to lead. But the importance of social care goes far beyond any financial figure. It is about dignity, choice and independence, and supporting not only individuals, but also their families, carers and wider communities.

What do you think is special about the people who work in social care?

Their compassion, resilience and professionalism. They build trusted relationships with people, often supporting them through difficult or significant moments in their lives, and the difference they make cannot be overstated.

If you could change one misconception about social care, what would it be?

That social care is only about meeting someone’s immediate needs. At its best, social care helps people maintain their independence, build confidence, stay connected to their communities and continue doing the things that matter to them.

What does it mean to you to help recognise and celebrate people working across Suffolk’s care sector?

It is both a privilege and an important opportunity to say thank you. People working in social care make a profound difference every day, and they deserve to have their skill, professionalism and achievements recognised publicly.

What would you like to see more of in Suffolk’s social care sector?

We would like to see continued innovation, collaboration and opportunities for people to build rewarding careers in social care. Above all, we want to see care that continues to focus on people’s strengths, choices and aspirations.

If you could say one thing directly to the people working in Suffolk’s care sector, what would you say?

Thank you. Your dedication, kindness and professionalism make a genuine difference to people, families and communities across Suffolk. The work you do is enormously valued.
